We are each born with the ability to tune into our mind, body & soul.
However, through the conditioning of the western world, our ability to tune in to our inner senses to seek inner peace & guidance is pretty much non-existent . . . Meditation, yoga & the gentle art of reflection isn’t ever taught at school! The traditional eastern cultures are well versed in the art of ‘going within’ to find peace, solitude & clarification & they have been doing this for centuries. When these spiritual practices become a daily routine, our lives can take on an entirely new energy & direction. When you choose to become the commander of your ship, so many of the external happenings in the world will take on less and less meaning. You’ll discover a sense of inner peace you never knew existed or thought possible. When was the last time you saw a stressed-out monk on anti-depressants?
It’s sad that record numbers of people around the world have become so reliant on daily medication to control their lives. Drugs like anti-depressants & sleeping pills, to name just a couple of the medications that are almost dished out by doctors like candy, are so common place today it’s frightening. The answer to our problems lies within us, not external of us. Take note of the word disease. When you break it up, it spells out as dis-ease. Which in energetic terms means your body is not at ease! Dis-ease or at-ease starts with the way you think & how you control what & who you allow into your life! I will never allow anything or anyone into my inner circle who is not conducive to my happiness, love & joy for life, because I cannot afford to and neither can you! I’m here to live a long, happy and healthy life and I will do whatever it takes to keep my vibration high.
Are you ready to start a new journey, the most rewarding & exciting journey you’ll EVER embark on in your entire life?
Most people say they can’t or don’t know how to switch off from all the noise and distraction of daily life so I’m going to walk you through a basic relaxation technique that can work wonders for your mind & sanity! Meditation takes practice & patience. One of the most powerful ways to prepare yourself for a good meditation routine is to start by following a relaxation routine which anyone can follow. A lot of people refer to my relaxation technique as a meditation, but a proper meditation is conducted in total silence where no music or voices are heard.
Set the Scene: there’s a couple of basic rules to remember.
- The most common gripe I hear all the time is “I can’t do it; my mind is way too busy & I can’t focus!” I can tell you; this is the most common complaint I hear all the time. The whole idea of a relaxation session is not to stop the noise in your head immediately but rather to learn how to control it. So let me walk you through a technique that I use.
- Switch off all your devices, like TV, radio, music, all telephones and anything else that can distract you from your time out. Try & do this at least 30 minutes before you start to enable the noise & vibration to settle around you. Remember, you’re about to escape from all the madness of daily life so you need to close the door on it all!
- Create a peaceful space with a welcoming ambience. To do that I’d highly recommend you light some incense & put some soft ambient music on, perhaps something like a selection of Terry Oldfield’s gentle pan flutes on Spotify, which is a great start. Quiet peaceful music that is not too heavy, loud or upbeat. You may choose to use the crystal sound bowls if you can a track that uses them or the pan flutes, the selection is endless! At this point if you’re stuck with knowing where to find the right music to use, I’d highly recommend downloading the App called Insight Timer as it is the world/s most popular meditation App & over 4 million people a day use it!
- If you’re conducting this at night, I’d also recommend you to switch off the lights & light some candles. I’m telling you, candles and incense work magically together!
- Prepare your seating arrangement. One of the best & most conducive ways to enjoy a relaxation / meditation is to sit upright in a straight back chair, the best one would be like a chair from your dining room table. Many people fall into the trap of lying down to mediate & wonder why they always end up going to sleep during the first few minutes! You can sit in a straight back chair or you can sit on a cushion on the floor if you wish, but do not lie down.
- A really good relaxation session can go for as long or as short as you wish, around the 35–40-minute mark is a good start. If you are using a musical selection from Insight Timer, you may find one that is a guided mediation / relaxation, with a person to guide you on the journey & that would be ideal as few people know what to do next when they first close their eyes.
- Start by taking a big deep breath in, holding for a few seconds & then exhaling & repeating that three or four times. Bring your attention to your toes and releasing all the tension, stress and anxiety in your toes, feet, ankles and then working that same process all the way up your body, letting go of all the tension and stress in every joint and muscle until you reach the top of your head.
The time & place you choose to enjoy your relaxation session. One of the most powerful and successful ways to set the tone for your regular ‘tune out’, is to conduct your session around the same time of the day or evening each day and preferably in the same chair in the same spot of the same room. That way you start to train your mind that this is your ‘escape zone’ and every time you sit down and take your place to commence, your mind starts to fall into the familiarity of the same pattern. It then becomes a little easier each time to fall into the zone when you start.
Monkey Mind: Something that affects us all when we start this journey!
According to Buddhist principles, the “monkey mind” is a term that refers to being unsettled, restless, or confused. It’s the part of you that stifles creativity and prevents you from moving forward with your passions. The monkey mind insists on being heard, and sometimes it takes a lot of self-control to shut it down. It is also the part of your brain that becomes easily distracted, so if you want to get anything done in life, your challenge will be to shut down the monkey mind.
Remember to be in the here and now. Being present in this way is called mindfulness. Being mindful encompasses awareness and interconnectedness between your inner and outer worlds. The ego has the ability to create false thoughts, which is the inner chatter we hear most often. In fact, it is the voice in our heads that we sometimes tell to “shut up.” Otherwise, we can become overwhelmed by these thoughts or even lose touch with reality. This is one reason why during meditation it’s a good idea to let thoughts come and go, rather than becoming obsessed with them or focusing on anyone in particular. If we focus too intensely on our thoughts, there’s a greater chance that we’ll lose touch with the here and now.
Sometimes, you cannot STOP your thinking thoughts and if you try, they just become louder & stronger!! So, what you need to practice is to learn how to control them. The best way to do that is to allow them in. The worst thing you can do is try and block your thoughts, so allow them to flow freely and easily into your mind and instead of getting caught up in them, just try this technique, it works really well for me. Just imagine you are an usher in a theatre and the show’s about to start, the scene has been set, lights have all been dimmed, and then all of a sudden you hear a loud banging on your door (which represent your thoughts). The worst thing you can do is yell out ‘go away” to all the banging as it will only get worse and will totally distract you from what you are here to achieve. Open the door and let them in. As your thoughts come in, welcome them in peace and ask them to take a seat beside you so that you can all enjoy this session together! Let your thoughts know that you’ll address them at the end of the session but for now, you’re all going to relax together.
The whole purpose of choosing to go down the route of relaxation / meditation is to help you cope in the day-to-day craziness of our world. Too many people think they can’t do it and yet, with a little practice, patience and perseverance, you can open up a whole new fascinating world of peace and harmony that is your private world, a world in which no one else dwells, only you!
Your inner sanctuary of peace is a beautiful, crystal blue lake of tranquillity that exists deep within your super conscious. It’s waiting for you to come and visit. When you do, you’ll discover a level of peace and contentment that you never thought possible! It’s one of the most powerful & effective ways to become “Spiritually bulletproof “
“Practice makes perfect” as they say.
Enjoy you exciting new Journey WITHIN, my dear friend
